THE FIGHT AGAINST PLASTIC POLLUTION

At Hi-Cone, we share the concern about plastic pollution harming wildlife– every ring carrier and piece of plastic that ends up in the environment is one piece too many.

We are especially disturbed by images of turtles or any wildlife entangled by ring carriers and animals that have ingested plastics. As a founding member of the Trash Free Seas Alliance, Hi-Cone actively works with the Ocean Conservancy to advance efforts to monitor and prevent wildlife entanglements, and to minimize plastic waste entering the ocean.

There has been progress.

According to the Ocean Conservancy, of the items collected globally in 2018, less than 0.07% were plastic ring carriers and ring carriers comprise less than 0.16% of total marine debris. Working with schools, businesses and groups from around the world, Hi-Cone’s Ring Leaders program has collected and recycled more than 2.7 million pounds of ring carriers. From labeling and new zipper features on our multipack solutions to breaking open ring carriers after use, we are collectively working to reduce the chances of entanglement and encourage recycling.

While Hi-Cone continues to help reduce pollution through beach cleanups and anti-littering programs, we recognize there is much more to be done.

How we dispose of plastic after use is a problem. Hi-Cone is working to do our part by promoting recycling and supporting recycling programs around the world. Our goal is to help advance the circular economy to reduce, recycle and reuse plastic so that it becomes a valuable resource rather than waste. By 2025, we are committed to providing a new sustainable packaging solution for customers that is 100% recyclable, biodegradable or compostable.
